Asfordby

Asfordby, with its population of nearly 2700, lies in the beautiful Wreake Valley, three miles west of Melton Mowbray. The older part of the village lies round the 13th century Church of All Saints and includes a Manor House, village cross and Rectory, together with two ancient Inns.
Housing was built on Asfordby Hill for workers at the Ironworks of Holwell Valley in 19th century. The iron works was demolished in 1961, to be followed by a colliery which (owing to difficult geological conditions) was also demolished in 1999.
The village has its own primary School and a fine Community Centre.
