Burrough on the Hill (population approaching 200), at 700 feet above sea level, gives a good view over surrounding Leicestershire. The village lies 5 miles south of Melton Mowbray -- clearly visible from the Iron Age Hill fort.
The village Church of St Mary the Virgin stands near the 18th century Manor House, and also the Brasenose Cottages. Burrough Hall and Burrough House were used as hunting boxes in the early 20th century when fox hunting and royalty were part and parcel of the area. -- Burrough House being where Edward Prince of Wales and Mrs Simpson first met in the 1930s.
