Computer Tips

Computers today can be adversely affected by a large number of problems. The most common of which is the virus. There are also a number of other threats that your computer must be protected against. The threats you must guard against are: -

  • Viruses

  • Trojans

  • Adware

  • Spyware

  • Dialers

  • Jokers

  • Hoaxers

  • Hacking

  • Phishing

Rather than try to explain what these threats are have a look at http://www.firewallguide.com.

This site is a good source of information of the above. It also gives advice about how to protect your computers as well as being a source of reviews about the products you can use to protect your computer.

At the very least I strongly advise that your computer is protected using a anti-virus, firewall and anti-spyware software. The products you can use are very many. At home I am using free software: -

AVG anti-virus from www.grisoft.com

ZoneAlarm from www.zonelabs.com

Spybot from http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html

SpywareBlaster from http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

At work I am using a product from Panda (www.kaspersky.co.uk) which deals with all of the above problems.

Before you choose a product it is very important to check that it will run on your computers operating system. If in doubt ask!

By using the minimum products you should be relatively safe and should maintain a good connection to the internet. If you don't use anti-spyware you run the risk of having a very slow internet connection, if it works at all.
